Anyway, it's a total of 30K points (15K points for each property). I think the point award is fair. The issue is a) stay/night credit for the originally-booked reservation; b) acceptable alternative lodging at no additional cost over what was originally booked.
We are getting stay credits and starpoints as per original reservations- this is the only thing the property offered straightaway.
If they had booked us at an acceptable property at the same rate in the first instance, there would have been no issue- I don't even need starpoints. Hey, they have a wedding, they are moving us to another property in similar category at the same rate, the options are these and you can choose. We would have been happy.
If they moved us to another acceptable property after all this aggravation at the same rate, 30K starpoints would have been OK for the aggravation I had to go through.
The properties think that I have to pay more because we did not accept the one they offered in the first instance (never heard of it before, so had to look at tripadvisor and general consencus on Tripadvisor is to stay way from this property) and because it is peak season and other properties are more expensive now. What they don't consider is that when we booked in early October, I could have booked Four Seasons at the same rate I was paying at GM- if they had told me this earlier both the alternatives I am offered now would have been cheaper than my original bookings with the SPG properties. It is only fair to expect the property or starwood to pick up a fair bit of the tab for this, either as starpoints or reimbursements as it is not my fault that they slept over this.
