I asked the same question of a check in agent at Miami last month I was told they could do it in practice, but he advised against it, If your flights are on 2 seperate tickets and things go wrong it could cause problems in retrieving your bags.
2 hours is tight, I had a scheduled 2hr connection from SFO, the flight arrived 30mins early over london, stacked for almost 40mins, then couldn`t get onto stand for 30mins after landing, I literally ran to the bag drop where the flight had closed 1min earlier, if I had not have checked in on line I would have missed the flight, they are more likely to let you on if you just have to drop a bag but it`s no guarantee, good luck!
