This is a question that I was pondering as I have had recent RTW experience with a LH 747 and a reconfigured UA 777. Both are essentially lie flat designs. In a comparison of these two, there are pluses and minuses to both. LH has a very clever design of tucking the leg rest under the seat in front involving simultaneous control of multiple actuators to raise and lower and rock the seat. The Tuetonic design of the finger controls are very intuitive versus and allow for three preset positions plus many gradations in between. For a tall man, I found the head-to-toe room satisfactory. Since I was in a middle seat, I needed to step across the legs of my seatmates, which was inconvenient. The UA design comes with a very large flat screen display and an iPod interface if you care to fork out some bucks for an adapter cable. The seat was very comfortable. I had plenty of side room, it seemed to be more than LH, but it was a bit odd to be facing backward to a bulkhead. However, unlike a car or train where the focus outside can cause disorientation, since this was a center section there was none of that. I'd give the UA design a slight advantage.
