You may wish to try it before deciding for certain. Give it a shot for a while if you are in a forward-facing seat but see an empty rear-facing seat on the plane.

IMO, and as others have expressed, the difference in the air is imperceptible. Takeoff/landing is different. But IMO, takeoff in a rear-facing seat is no more uncomfortable than landing in a forward-facing seat, and vice versa.
