Is EXP status worth 3500 dollar?

Hi I will be doing a ORD-DEL-ORD vacation trip soon. Currently status (and miles ) have expired on AA due to not flying AA recently(why did they change the 3 year rule to 18 monthsSo will be starting with no status. But I saw that Oneworld explorer lone3 tickets from Delhi are 2500 USD a/i. What I am thinking is spending 10 days out of my Delhi vacation to do a RTW MR combined with a platinum challenge. The itinerary I have come up with is
ord-del 7484
del-nrt-dfw-yvr-dfw-anc-dfw-sju-lax-lhr-mct-lhr-fco-nrt-cgk-nrt-del 55936
del-ord 7484
The way I figure this is that I should hit the Platinum challenge status on the NRT-DFW flight. The DEL-NRT flight is not AA operated so would not count for the challenge. So the first 10000 miles are at no status and the next 60000 get me 150% points /200% miles so 90000 points. Total 100000 miles. Tickets are 1000 dollars approx for the ord-del-ord and 2500 for the RTW. Do you veterans think 3500 and 10 days of vacation time are worth EXP status? I could actually get in some vacation by replacing the CGK with DPS and spend some time in Bali.
Also I am a little confused as to whether the bonus will apply towards status or not. Never been above gold before but did not know about challenges earlier. Now that I know of challenges (thank you ft) I want get the highest status to make up for all the time I spent in Gold when I could have challenged to Platinum
