Best way to find Asia fares?

Hi,

I did a search, but did not find a specific thread on this question.

For U.S. to Asia travel, what in your experience has been the best approach for consistently finding low fares:

1. travel agents/consolidators?

2. airline websites?

3. airline CSR phone lines?

4. Expedia, Orbitz or Travelocity?

5. other?

I always thought travel agents/consolidators were supposed to be the best approach. Has this been your experience?

While I know Expedia, Orbitz and Travelocity are great for finding low U.S. domestic fares, it was my understanding that they were not good for international Asia fares. However, in the last year, I have noticed some good fares on those sites. Was I wrong about them? Any tips for searching those sites to find the good fares as opposed to the ridiculous $2,500 discount coach fares that normally seem to pop up when you do a search.

What about the airline websites?

Thanks for any comments.
