Don't think there is anything wrong with it if it's just to give your wife a hand with the kids. If it's with the intention of getting them lounge access I would say it is wrong. If you choose a destination with good frequency of flights then I very much doubt you will deprive someone of a seat.
Can she not ask for assistance at check-in anyway?
