That's why I stick to playing double deck when I drink. When I get tired of "actively" counting...it's easy to still get a feel for how many high cards have come out early in the deck and I can adjust my bets accordingly later in the shoe. So yes...drinking in moderation can work just fine at the tables but if you drink in excess you tend to lose in excess.
Double deck, dealt from a shoe? I thought they only did that in Atlantic City; when they first opened the casinos back in the late 70's.
You do realize, that probably anything more than 1 drink, and you can pretty much kiss away any positive EV potential you "might" get from counting.

Big baccarat is a proper drinking game, and as such, is my personal preference while enjoying cocktails. Though, if one gets a bit too tipsy, they might "jump the gun" and deal an extra card, before being asked for one. This will, of course, cause the entire table to hate you --- if they must burn an extra card in the middle of the shoe.
