If you're going centre to centre, there is a Virgin train that can do the sprint to Euston in 4hr10mins! The views are excellent through the lakes in the daylight, otherwise getting down to Gatwick area is a royal pain in the *ss, add at least another hour onto any journey time from Euston.
Might take the train on the way back. Not travelling to Central London, Gatwick is near to where i'm staying
