The problem with checking in wine is that it likely won't be the same when you get to your destination. I have checked wines on a handful of occasions (insulated, wrapped), and the vast majority of them have gone off or fundamentally changed their taste when I later opened them.

While you might be luckier on a short-haul flight (though, I still wouldn't recommend it as I have experienced this with sub-3 hour flights), you will almost certainly have issues with a long-haul. Mind you, red wine is a lot more susceptible to the hot/cold warping on a plane than white wine.

I would recommend finding an alternative way to get them shipped or sent to a local distributor.
