I remember hearing that when DL mentioned they were gonna start up ATL-TLV with a 777 a few yrs ago. They got the JFK-TLV from PN and flew it for awhile. But were going with ATL over JFK. DL now flys from both ATL and JFK and will be switching come April from a 763 from JFK to a 777.
what will make it or brake it for US is 1- can they get a decent cargo biz, 2- can they get enough people to connect in PHL say LAX-PHL-TLV, I dont think the city of PHL can carry the flight itself, but with Balt a short drive away that can help as alot of people really dont want to puddle jump up to NY and then transfer between Terms, also there are a number of large Jewish communties within an hrs drive in NJ who till now drove the hr up to EWR.
If US prices its flights above CO and LY out of EWR and above the European carriers then Id say they will have a very hard time indeed.If they are competitive with CO and LY out of EWR they have a very good shot at succeeding, but they also need to draw the connecting traffic
Although there are any # of *A Carriers flying into TLV none are US Carriers, US will be the 1st one ever.
