When I used to make 1K on segments and lived in the East Bay, I would regularly alternate between originating in MOD, SMF, OAK, SJC, or SFO depending on the fare. While MOD is generally higher, on occasion it's not.

If you have the time for potential delays (that tule fog thing can be a killer), then go for it: more EQMs and more chances for VDBs.
