There were issues with this type of fare and it being abused. That was why the fares were no longer offered, however if someone holds a booking and needs to change it for this type of reason BA are as compassionate as possible. Equally if someone purchases a ticket last minute for this type of situation and tells the staff at the terminal they will normally be looked after as much as is reasonably possible.

Simonros, I am sorry for your loss and sorry that you feel that we took the opportunity to make money out of it. Can I ask though, did you tell the BA staff at the terminal or the crew on the flight the nature of your journey? Welcome to FT, I hope that you are not put off by the response to your initial post here, some people are very fond and very protective of BA. Hope to see you post here again.
