The truth is, that about 6 to 10 US flights per day depart from the C gates. The remaining ones depart from the Non-Schengen A gates (upper level).
You may call it a myth since it was
announced by LH some time ago
but the plan obviously didn't work. The announcement actually said all flights to the US would depart from level 3 concourses A and B of Terminal 1.
If arriving in A and departing from C, you can also take a Sky Line train which might save a few minutes of the long walk to C.
