Indeed. Bereavement fares are fairly common in the airline industry. They are not rock bottom but usually mid-priced with, however, more flexible conditions, as is appropriate for such fares given that you may well have to change plans at the last minute.

It seems that BA no longer offer these, although they used to. One of the BA staff regulars can confirm whether or not BA still offers bereavement fares.
