I called a Swiss telephone reservations agent today.
The luggage limit is the same, everywhere in Swiss' route system.
Regular economy passengers - 2 bags - each 23 (not 20 - that is the old limit) kg
Star Alliance Gold economy passengers - 2 bags - each 23 kg.
I spoke to a second agent today. She told me the first agent was wrong. For intra-Europe flights, it is 20 kg for a basic economy class passenger, and 40 kg for a Star Alliance Gold. There are no restriction on number of bags.
For Zurich to India (and perhaps Zurich to North America?), 2 bags per basic passenger - no more than 23 kg/bag. For a Star Alliance Gold member, an extra third bag is allowed.
The fact that first agent did not know the full rules, suggests that similar confusion about the rules may take place at the check-in process?
