Policies are always changing, but last time I was at AMS, access was only permitted in conjunction with an outbound ticket. They once denied my access when I didn't have an outbound ticket. Shower access required Business class ticket, or (combination of Worldclub membership and Platinum) last time I remember.

That's odd, i was just there a few days ago, without a outbound ticket, arriving in y class with only my plat card, and they give me the shower ticket just fine, but i did have to wait about 20 minutes on the waiting list.
To the OP, i suggest using the one outside of passport control, that one has a in-house shower.
