I checked out IAH E-5 E-6 and EWR C-74 today.

I thought that the locations for the IAH gates were both perfect. They directly face the common passenger seating area and, they are exactly where the people who are really interested in them will stand while waiting to board. They should reduce traffic at the podium and those who are watching will not be in the way of others who want to get to the GA at the podium. The elites and FC who congregate at the gate entrance are positioned to watch the displays as well.

The EWR C-74, a more traditional gate area also seems to be just fine with one screen facing the seating area and the other facing the podium and boarding lanes. I think that a lot of work and thought went into the placements and that they're fine.
