Well then I wonder how this works from the TA side as they tell me that the specific seats are reserved for this and other trips, except for EK which will acknowledge the booking but not the exact seats until I pay for them. Further, they have always warned me that the airline may make a demand for payment at anytime. For example, if the flight is selling out in that fare class. Failing to pay at that time will cause the booking to disappear. I will have to research this further.
Is this TA in the US? There are different rules depending on where the TA is located. In a nutshell there are specific rules as to when a reservation must be ticketed... which is when payment must be made.
When a TA makes a reservation, everything is general confirmed (fare, seats etc). There is a specific deadline for ticketing that is a combination of overall TA rules and specific fare rules. You can, with certain premium fares, reserve a long time before and ticket just days before the flight (and hence) payment.
