oh look - snap!

Dear Jenbel

Thank you for the comments you left via the Manchester Airport website

Manchester Airport has been providing disposable plastic bags free of charge since the August 2006 security alerts whilst many other airports have levied charges (including Birmingham, Liverpool and Blackpool Airports).

Manchester Airport is encouraging passengers to bring their own plastic bags to carry liquids through the security search process as we end our free supply as part of a three-month trial in Terminal 1.

Since the liquid restrictions were introduced, the amount of confiscated liquids, gels and pastes has reduced at Manchester Airport by over 50% and the majority of passengers are familiar with the restrictions arriving at the airport with liquids, gels and pastes of less than 100ml already stored in re-sealable plastic bags.

Since 10 February 2009 specially designed dispensing machines have been located in the check-in hall and the entrance to security charging £1 for two reusable, re-sealable plastic bags.

The majority of our passengers do know about the restrictions and come prepared. Unlike many of UK airports, we’ve continued to provide free disposable plastic bags for as long as possible to give people a chance to get used to the liquid restrictions. All the evidence suggests that this is now the case and this is why we’re introducing this trial so that we can fully evaluate a dispensing machine alternative before the summer season begins.

Kind regards
