CAL I'll agree and disagree with you. I am price conscious (since it's my company's $$) when it's appropriate. But I had a last minute schedule change and I had to get to DFW.

AA and DL were selling the trip around $1000.00 while US was selling it around $500.00. I chose to take the DL flight since I'm gaining status on DL now. I could have taken US for 1/2 the price but I just can't in all honesty give them any $$ whether it's mine or my company's. And my boss always receives notice of our flights and the cost and cheaper alternatives, but he didn't force me to take the cheaper US flights. He knows I prefer to fly DL.

As it turns out my trip to DFW got shortened by 1 day and I got to fly home early. And the price of that $1000.00 actually came down by $250.00. And I didn't get hit with a change fee. So the ticket ended up costing around $750.00 when I had to do my expenses.

Now, had I made that purchase on US with it's $500.00 price tag and then had to change the day of departure I probably would have been charged the fare difference and the change fee which would have taken up it to around $750.00 or more.

So I did end up saving my company a bit of $$ while earning my mileage credits, segment points and BONUS miles.

Would I have gotten that on US? Probably NOT.
