NW's A330s are nice. AF's 777s are nice. Neither are true flat in biz, but they are pretty good.

As for when to fly DL or when to fly other carriers, I'd probably base it on destination. If you can get a non-stop from NYC, take that. If you have to connect then start looking at different carriers.
