I wrote something similar and went so far as to ask them why they thought they had a higher authority than the DfT to be able to mandate what plastic bags can and can't be used.

I too said I would be travelling with a copy of the DfT regulations and should I be stopped again I would be asking for the head of security and the manager of the airport to come and speak to me.
