There are 2 kinds of boats, the fast ones that get you to Luang Prabang in one day, into which you are crammed like sardines, with no chance to stand up for hours.
The other trip is a leisurely float down the Mekong on one of the bigger boats with good seating, that stop in Pakbeng (which is worth a visit in itself), and at the Buddha Cave outside of LP
