Honest answers to that question ("Well, AA/LH/SQ has had it for the last three/two/fourteen hours," etc.) generally elicit repeated asking of the questions with a tight smile until I just answer, "No". Then the questioner is happy and I am on my way.
That is exactly what happened to me the one time I honestly responded that the bag was in my apartment with other people present once. Never again made that mistake...
