Why were you going via PER, was there a reason? PER-JNB is a SAA codeshare, so not really QF's fault that it has been retimed, although rather odd move on SAA's part as it no longer takes east coast connecting traffic.
If no joy with QF you could use EK for same day arrival, CX and SQ have early next day arrivals.

I bought this with the QF buy 1 get 1 free special. The special was not running on the mel-syd-jnb flights and vice versa.
If they are not willing to put me on the QF63, what compensation am I entitled to ask for, such as a hotel voucher etc as the only way to make this flight is if I arrive the day before.
