Qantas have chaned my flights, they no longer work, over night stay required etc.

When I booked my MEL-PER-JNB ticket the itinerary was as follows.
MEL-PER: 4 July: 1845-21:00
PER-JNB: 4 July: 23:50-05:45
They have changed it to the following.
MEL-PER: 4 July: 1845-21:00
PER-JNB: 4 July: 11:20-17:15
Firstly I want to know how I am meant to catch a flight that departs 10 hours before I get there.
The earliest MEL-PER flight arrives at 10:45am, only 35 mins before the new departure time.
They said they changed the MEL-PER flight but infact changed the PER-JNB flight.
What sort of compensation can I ask for, I assume a hotel room is standard. First prize would to be fly MEL-SYD-JNB, do you think I have a leg to stand on to tell them to put me on that flight. The reason I booked those was I had to be in MEL on Friday night and need to be in JNB by Sunday morning.
What can I do?
