Why are perfectly acceptable English words censored?

At some level I can understand this. But I don't understand when they are censored in a PM to a friend.

Why is such a word as b a s t a r d banned on FT. It is descriptive, states a feeling, and in no way needs to be considered a response to another FTer.

I have enough command of the language that I could insult a FTer (with much more vitriol) and violate the TOS by using words that FT allows.

I certainly don't get my panties in a knicker when I hear these words in public.
