My local airport, NWI, still insists that every single passenger removes their footwear before going through security. Of all the UK airports I've used this past year or so NWI is the only one that does - I've had to remove my shoes a couple of times at LHR in recent memory, but it's probably two years since I was asked to remove my shoes anywhere else.

However, my experience is limited to about half a dozen airports, and I would be interested to hear about others.

So... how about the airports YOU use? Is it "shoes off" or "shoes on"? If it varies, on what percentage of trips have you had to remove your footwear? And has it varied depending on the type of footwear?
