Going off-topic, can anyone recommend a hotel in the downtown area relatively near in cab terms to Union Station in Los Angeles. I've looked at the AAA TourBook and also TipAdvisor, but the TripAdvisor reviews seem all over the place, one person is really enthusiastic about a place and the next person says it's the worst one they've ever stayed at.
Post this question in the Los Angeles destination forum and you'll probably get better answers.
Most of the Downtown area is within cab distance (heck, even walking distance, if you stretch it or you're a New Yorker). The Westin Bonaventure is on the nicer end (it's famous for its revolving restaurant on top), though reviews are a bit mixed. Amtrak crews stay at the Metro Plaza just a couple of short blocks away from Union Station, and it's more on the budget side (if you ask budget-minded people, they'll give it positive reviews; people expecting luxury will give it more mixed or flat-out negative reviews). Those are the only two I know off the top of my head.
