I would heartily recommend Epazotes (http://www.epazotedelmar.com/) in the Del Mar Village, or Poisidon (http://www.theposeidonrestaurant.com/) which is right on the beach in Del Mar. As Del Mar is close to half-way between Carlsbad and SD these two might be good choices.
