I have an itinerary booked and paid for December in w fare Sydney to New York . All sectors have been upgraded with SWUs – I know I did not believe it either .

One of the organizations I consult for now wants to fly me there on the same itinerary but business class - I’m not complaining .However , their travel agency Amex travel will not take over my current booking and convert to Z .They insist I just cancel it myself .

My issue is that my son ( same surname ) wants to come along with me and I would love to be able to change the name on my ticket to his and retain the upgraded seats – two problems I recognize .

I am 1K and looked as much as I can and have found no recent experience related on this board.

Any thoughts about how I should approach this dilemma?
