Most my purchases are online/ebay/amazon/grocery/newegg and recently more travel as I am now able to travel but probably only 1 or 2 tickets every 6 months. Also like the OP really nothing too amazing gas wise as I prefer to walk and most things are pretty close to me. I currently have the AMEX Delta Gold and like the warranty extension it provides but sadly AMEX rather screwed me recently on a dispute and I am rather annoyed with them but if they offer the best card I will stick with them but I do plan on canceling the gold card soon. Now I am pretty sure my best option is a cashback card as I doubt I will spend enough to build up the tickets to make an airline/hotel card worthwhile except for possibly the bonus (the bonus was the main reason I got the Gold card initially).

any thoughts on specific choices? It looks like the AMEX blue has a tier probably at my planned max annual spending or just slightly below so I am not sure how that will go. As Robert below says the NASA FCU does seem like a possibility as I will definitely spend above 2k annually. And I live in Galveston so can't be that hard as I am about 30minutes away from NASA spacecenter I am sure they have something going on for locals. Any negatives to the card? And considering my lower spending would it be reasonable to get this card as my primary card but say an AA card for the bonus and just cancel at the end of the year before the fee hits?

thanks

Why does anyone think that a bank would have anything for locals? Promotions are done to attract customers that otherwise would not naturally want to do business with you.
