If you check your UA PNR on .bomb, it usually will assign you a seat.

If you are book through codeshare on NH, more that likely it is. Keep in mind UA had only purchased certain row of seats in Y on NH, you may be able to call up NH to change for an aisle or window, but only within those row of seats (usually close to the back), not anywhere else til you check in for your flight with NH.
