Rather than hitting the same old haunts on an upcoming visit I thought I'd try to branch out a little so seek recommendations.

Things that I personally think make a pub great: independent, a good history or story, dark corners, good beer (think Jerusalem Tavern in Clerkenwell, except with expanded beer selection).

But I'm open to other criteria. Please share.
