I fly in & out of T-3 twice a month. I'd agree---That absolutely stupid shoe carnival that follows the security lines & x-rays has GOT to go.
But, once past that, I'd suggest passing on AA's offerings here altogether. After the shoe check, make a right turn & head over to the "Lounge A" area & go up to CX's lounges. In their F lounge, they do have hot/cooked-to-order food, along with several decent cold plated offerings in the frig. As a CX lounge it's nowhere near the calibre of, say, their Wing/Pier at HKG, but for OW offerings at T-3, it's not bad at all.
Have been to both BA's/T5 & AA's/T-3 Arrivals facilities. AA's isn't as dismal as some portray. Sure, it doesn't have a hot breakfast offering, but to be honest, coming off of an overnight flight & trying to get into the office in London, I'm often in grab-&-go mode for breakfast w/o the time for a hot, sit-down one anyways.
