If you read the whole review compare it with other reviews, you can tell if they're being picky or have a legitimate issue.

I stayed at a very nice inexpensive hotel in Ft Myers beach and knew before we were arriving we'd get there a little before official check in time. And the previous review to my stay ranted about not getting early check-in. And the tone of it was very confrontational, you got the vibe they didn't ask about it in a nice way.

So when I checked in about 1 hr before official check in time, and said " here to check in, we can wait if need be, or if the room is ready, that's great too" and we got right in, i had further evidence the previous poster was not very gracious....
