Do I just call up AA after purchase and add him? Is there a cost associated with this as it is award travel?
If, and only if, this is a domestic flight, you do not have to notify AA ahead of time (and there is no charge for the child). However, you may NOT check in on-line or at a kiosk. You must check in with a gate agent so that they can add the infant to your boarding pass (TSA will check carefully to ensure the the child is on a boarding pass).
If this is an international flight, you will have to pay for the child to be in your lap and you should contact AA ASAP (preferably before you even purchase the ticket).
If you have not already done so, I strongly suggest that you purchase a Baby B'air (
http://www.babybair.com/). It is the only system that I know of that will keep a child attached to you (rather than becoming a lose missle) during flight. It's not expensive, but it could save your child from either serious injury or even death in the event of severe turbulance.
