Newbie here--ATL or EWR better for LAX-FCO

I am a total newb. Even pretty new to using FF miles. But got enough to go to Rome and back, so... Having studied what they'll give me at the 60,000 level--it's either 7:15 a.m. (flight 1403) on Continental LAX-EWR, where I have about 1 hour and 40 minutes and it looks like the same terminal or LAX-ATL with 1 HOUR 25 MINUTES and need to take that train. Also, Delta has only one flight a day to FCO, whereas there is at least one later flight from EWR. Delta does have a really good record with this particular flight. The other difference (if anybody here knows) is that the LAX-EWR is a 737-800 (3 and 3 across) and the Delta (flight 2082, 7:35 a.m.) is a 767-300 with 8 seats across. As I'm writing this, other than being able to get up 20 minutes later (I am SO not a morning person), the Newark flight looks better all around. But not really sure, since I haven't flown Continental in hundreds of years.

But anyway, is 1 hour 25 minutes enough time in ATL? Thanks!
