Indeed. You don't want to be stuck when they eventually replace MSP/DTW-NRT with a Delta flight and then you can't use your certificate for any portion of the flight.
Of course the above advice is applicable to anyone with outstanding certs/vouchers that have "NW/KL only" stipulations. There is no guarantee that they would be honored/grandfathered in by Delta.
