Maybe the speech didn't come out as it should have, but I applaud the effort of the crew to allow each person to do as they wanted.
I can see your point of view, however, the GA spent way too much time on the subject, and really stressed how thankful we should be.
Afterwards, it looked like only 10 people hadn't boarded yet.
