Geneva - no BA check in on French side

Lots of skiers rent cars from the French side of Geneva airport. On returning your car you used to be able to check in your luggage on the French side, and walk through to the Swiss departure side. This is no longer possible.

You must now
push your trolley through the check in area
remove the pole at the corridor entrance to get your trolley through
proceed to top of escalator
move cases to bottom of escalator, then get trolley down escalator
exit through Swiss passport control (the far desk has a door which they will open to allow your trolley through)
exit through Swiss customs
proceed upstairs to check in

alternatively, drop your passengers and luggage off on the Swiss side, then return car on French side and proceed to check in desk

I complained at the BA lounge and was told:
We've had lots of complaints
It's a cost saving measure
The problems with the walking route are to do with the airport and not BA

Perhaps BA could have a desk manned on Saturdays during the ski season, have an announcement on arrival explaining the problem, or even persuade Swiss/French authorities to allow BA passengers to walk through the route (10m maximum) which is the entrace from Switzerland to France.

All in, this is a pathetic performance and the route is extremely dangerous with a trolley
