On some routes this makes sense. On my most frequent Africa route, however, the lowest coach fare is usually around $2400. Buying multiple coach seats would be a lot of extra $.

I have paid fees randing from $115 per bag to $200 per bag on various airlines. Some airlines like AA have a hard limit of 5 bags max per passenger. UA has accepted 10 bags with out a problem. AF, BA, and LX also have charged me fees in the above range for excess pieces.
