I'm curious as to how far out of line this is from other airlines' policies, as this would be the apples to apples comparison rather than FedEx/DHL/TNT etc. $600/bag seems nuts.

While I haven't moved my household via checked bags as some of the expat crowd here so I can't speak for the cost of 9 or 10 bags, I do believe that I've been hit with 150 euro fees on AF and maybe a $250 USD+ on LH. This was just for the third (or maybe fourth?) bag in each case.


Delta clearly does not want to be in the business of transporting a passenger's 10 bags. I wonder if this has to do with their increasing service to baggage heavy locales (Africa, India, Dubai etc)?
