Seeing the CoC is believing but I was always under the impression that if a passenger was denied entry to a country the carrier was responsible for (immediately) returning the passenger to the country of origin. Any idea where that piece of wrong "street law" came from?
I am surprised if a visa is required for entry to the EU that the OP was even allowed entry to The Netherlands even if only for 1 night. How did that work other than the honesty of the OP? The EU borders are pretty fluid and if the OP wanted, they could have easily traveled to the final destination once "in" enough to get to a hotel.
