AH - HA! I can offer some insight into this enigma. I, too, had stared at those countless pen marks all over the backs of the F leather seats and pondered just how on earth could these things crop up on darn near every F seat in the fleet.....until.....

One fateful day, the gentleman sitting next to me in F decided he needed to use the lav. In preparing to get up from his seat, he placed his ballpoint pen (point-up) into his journal he was reading and making notes in and closed the journal. As he was attempting to jam it into the seatback pocket, I saw with my own eyes the pen point write all over the back of the seat.

As for the gentleman who caused all the damage....he was oblivious.
