Sheraton Corniche

Ended up having a change of plans and we are moving to Abu Dhabi! As part of my husband's ex-pat package, the company put us up in the Sheraton Corniche as we searched for an apartment. A few thoughts:

First, note that there are two Sheratons in Abu Dhabi. I am writing about the Sheraton Corniche which is near the water and a bit more of a resort. The other Sheraton has fewer (if any) resort facilities and is called Sheraton Al Khalidiya.

Rooms: Very small, but modern. Nice bathooms with bath, separate modern shower, bathrooms have lots of (non-natural) light. Most rooms have minimal natural light and just a small sliding door window. The rooms to request are overlooking the pool- those are the best views.

Pool/Beach: Nice pools with poolside food and beverage service. Plenty of seating. There are two levels- upper level pool and a lower level pool, as well as a small beach. Due to construction (see point below) upper level pool is the best bet.

Gym: Very nice, modern gym with excellent new cardio and strength equipment. Comparable with that of my Equinox membership in NYC.

Food: Lots of restaurants. Flavors is the "main" restaurant that has a great breakfast buffet, but bad service (you need to request coffee multiple times- this happened almost everyday, and to those around me too); Bravos tapas bar is ok (at best), but the food is clearly NOT produced by a Spanish Chef. The best bets for dinner are the Italian Restaurant and the Mexican spot. The coffee bar in the lobby has some good coffee treats and makes a decent warm chicken wrap at lunch.

Service: Overall service is fine, people are nice- nothing stellar but nothing bad. Overall, things move just a little more slowly in Abu Dhabi overall than I am used to.

Construction: Many, many parts of Abu Dhabi are under construction, and the area is no exception. The construction is a bit removed from the hotel itself, but definitely can be seen and heard from the beach and other parts of the hotel. It can also be heard many days if you open your room window- so be aware before booking.
