I called AMEX to cxl out of mine and they said "you might as well keep it until June when the next annual charge appears on your bill. Then call us and cancel at that time."

I figured it's a trick They're probably thinking I won't remember or won't "notice" that there's a whopping hit on my June bill. (Wrong, I've got it listed as a reminder in my email program.) Or maybe they're thinking that I won't call them in a timely enough manner! So you could call and inquire now and see what story you get.
