I can only share my experience and what AA has to offer has to be compared to the alternatives--the other carriers. Frankly, if you're an EXP, AA wins hands down. It's not even close.
As someone who is a NW PE, AA EXP and a UA 1P (although losing that status in a few days), I concur, one cannot beat AA's treatment of its EXPs. Legacy NW was very good to its PEs (highest tier), but with the merger it is safe to say that is not so much the case anymore.
