UA certainly offers more routes to use systemwides on, particularly places like Australia, Hong Kong, and Singapore, where you can't get on AA metal. That's the one benefit I miss the most from being a former 1K. It's not all roses, though, as I understand UA requires higher priced fares to upgrade with systemwides, unlike AA's policy of allowing rock bottom fares.

I made lifetime Platinum in 6 years with AA (Gold in 3), where I flew 839,000 miles with UA over a dozen years and never attained lifetime status. Of course, no guarantee that AA will continue that program.
